Steve with Memphis Heritage Director June West, receiving a check from the State of Tennessee to help with efforts to preserve the Zippin Pippin rollercoaster, a remnant of Libertyland which Steve and June helped get onto the National Historic Register. They received the grant check thanks to the efforts of State Senator Ophelia Ford.

In January 2009, Steve toured the Libertyland site with an expert to determine the feasibility of saving the Zippin Pippin rollercoaster and Grand Carousel .

Steve at the top of the Zippin Pippin rollercoaster December 2009. Steve organized a volunteer crew of contractors, engineers, and iron workers to do selective salvage of historically sensitive artifacts from the Pippin for preservation and storage.
